Can I afford to hire? How do I test a decision against my cash flow?
Short answer: Put the new cost into your monthly forecast and see whether cash stays positive. SmartCash has ready-made what-if scenarios for hiring, running a sale, stocking up, taking a loan and more, plus a custom one. They start on the Professional plan at $24.99 a month, with a 14-day free trial.

How to test a decision
- Get a baseline. Your current forecast of money in, money out and cash available month by month.
- Add the change. For a hire, the wage and any extra costs from the start date. For a sale, the lower prices and the extra stock or ad spend.
- Look at the lowest point. The question is whether cash dips below what you need in any month, not only where it ends up.
- Try a worse case. Delay the extra sales by a month or two and see if you still get through.
The scenarios in SmartCash
- Hire someone
- Run a sale
- Stock up
- Lose a big customer
- Raise prices
- Take a loan
- Launch a product
- Run a campaign
- A custom scenario of your own
Ready-made questions include "Can I afford to hire?", "Is this sale worth it?" and "What would a loan cost me each month?". The result is a scenario, not a promise: it depends on the records and assumptions you give it.
